Support: Softpay 3.2.2+ and Nets
Requirement: Surcharge functionality must be enabled by Nets before it becomes available in app.
Setting up Surcharge on Nets
You may need to inform your Nets contact that they need to enable CAPS groups Softpay (15000) and Surcharge (702) on the agreement to enable surcharge.
After 24 hours of Nets enabling surcharge on your acquiring setup the activation should have synced to Softpay and the terminal will have surcharge enabled.
When is Surcharge applied
- Nets have activated surcharge on the TOF (acquiring) by adding the correct groups in their setup.
- 24 hours have passed to allow data sync.
- Card is of a type or scheme where surcharge will be applied.
- Stand-alone: Surcharge is enabled in app settings.
- POS: Surcharge is enabled in app settings and requested by POS.
- Softpay app is 3.2.2 or higher.
| Surcharge setting in app (3.2.2+) | Transaction origin | Will surcharge apply? |
| On | Stand-alone (app) | Yes |
| On | POS (surcharge not requested) | No |
| On | POS (surcharge requested) | Yes |
| Off | POS (surcharge requested) | No |
Testing Surcharge
Surcharge cannot be tested with just any card. Depending on country and regulations different regulations govern when surcharge can be available.
Your Nets contact should be able to help you with information about which card schemes and situations surcharge is available for.
Additional options
If surcharge is enabled by Nets on your Softpay merchant, the “Enable surcharge” toggle in Settings will be set to “on” by default. If you wish to disable surcharge on the terminal, simply switch the toggle to off.
In the app settings you can enable a confirmation screen that is presented to the cardholder for surcharge (“Enable confirm surcharge” toggle).
Note: The confirmation screen can be managed centrally at Softpay to always be displayed on all terminals for a merchant and in that case it cannot be controlled in the app.
